Community Connection
The Hockey Academy classes from the 2008/2009 school year took part in two different community connection partnerships. The idea behind the community connection program has 3 parts to it: we want the hockey academy players actively involved in the community and have them exposed to some potential new experiences. Furthermore we want the athletes to spread the message on all the innovative things they are learning at Catholic Central High School. The athletes had some new experiences during our partnerships and had a great time working with people in the community.
The Hockey Academy students had the opportunity to spend a couple hours at St. Paul Elementary School. The athletes where quickly put to work in a variety of areas. They read to the students, helped organize classrooms, played games in the gymnasium and even did a little teaching. The academy students did a fine job and the Elementary students had lots of fun.
The Hockey Academy students also had the opportunity to visit a local Seniors Complex. The athletes enjoyed their time with the residence talking about the weather, sports and of course catching up on the latest stories. The students also had a chance to play cards and shuffle board. It was a really neat experience for all the students.
