Mr. Jay Langager

Head Instructor/Physical Education Teacher

Mr. Langager graduated from the University of Lethbridge in the spring of 2009. Jay is in his first year of teaching and Catholic Central is very excited to have him directly involved with the Hockey Academy program. Jay has an extensive playing resume in the WHL, CIS and various professional leagues. He has had NHL training camp experiences with the Calgary Flames and Atlanta Thrashers. Jay is currently in his 4th year as an assistant coach with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns. Jay will be an important part of continuing on a strong tradition of player development within the Catholic Central High School Hockey Academy Program.

Mr. Chris Leroux

Associate Principal / Head Instructor / Director of Academies

Mr. Leroux has been teaching at CCH for the past ten years. Chris has been involved with the development of the Hockey Academy skills program since its conception and has been Director of Academies for the past year. Chris has recently been appointed Associate Principal at Catholic Central but will continue to be involved in the Hockey Academy program. He brings a tremendous amount of hockey experience to the Hockey Academy and feels privileged to have the opportunity to work in such a unique program. As a player, Chris played in the CIS for the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns and in the BCHL for the Chilliwack Chiefs. For the past four years Chris has been coaching within the Lethbridge Minor Hockey Association and currently coaches a Novice team. Chris is currently in his first year of Graduate studies and is taking a Masters of Coaching program through Ohio University.

Mr. Rich Sutter

Head Instructor/Athlete Consultant

Mr. Rich Sutter will be actively involved with the Hockey Academy program for the second year. Rich will be involved with on-ice player instruction and will be available for any athlete consultation. Rich brings many strengths to the hockey program and is very committed to helping the athletes. As a professional player, Rich played 13 seasons in the NHL. He has played over 950 games mainly with the Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks and St. Louis Blues and has also been a NHL scout for the Phoenix Coyotes and Minnesota Wild. Rich is currently the Assistant to the GM and Hockey Operations Director for the WHL Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Mr. Phil Guenter

Lead Goaltender Instructor

Phil has been coaching goaltenders for over 12 years. He is currently working with goaltenders from a variety of teams and organizations such as: U of L pronghorns, Flin Flon Bombers, Warner Girls Academy, and St. Francis Hockey Academy. Phil is also an area scout for the Regina Pats of the WHL. Some of the goaltenders that Phil works with include: Scott Bowles (U of L), Reece St. Goddard (U of L), Drew Owsley (Tri City -WHL), Jeff Malcom (Yale – NCAA), Robbie Gunderson (Alaska – NCAA), Matt Wenninger (St. Lawrence – NCAA), Klynt Spencer (Calgary Canucks – AJHL). Phil is currently the head director for High Performance Hockey’s Goaltending clinics which alows Phil to be involved with many youth goaltenders in Lethbridge and the surrounding area.

Mr. John McGill

Power Skating Instructor

John joins CCH’s HockeyAcademy coaching staff as a Power Skating Instructor. Bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise in his field, John is a graduate of the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Physical Education and Kinesiology. In the past John has served as skating coach for the Lethbridge Hurricane’s, as well as the strength and conditioning coach for both the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders and Lethbridge Hurricanes. He has also carried out scouting duties for three WHL teams, and was the head skating instructor for Lethbridge Minor Hockey Association’s Coach Mentoring Program. John has International experience and has developed an on ice injury rehabilitation program. John is also involved with  Warner’s female hockey program as well as the University of Lethbridge Men’s program this season

Mr. Greg Gatto

Hockey Academy Instructor

Greg Gatto began his junior career in the AJHL, playing two seasons with the Olds Grizzles and then two seasons in the Western Hockey League with four different teams. Greg then spent the next five seasons at the University of Lethbridge. Greg went on to play hockey professionally with England, Colorado Springs in the WCHL, San Antonio and Odessa in the CHL.

 Greg’s career then took the next step as he moved behind the bench to be the Assistant Coach and Director of youth hockey for the Odessa Jackalopes in the Central Hockey League. After one season as an Assistant, Greg moved on to become the Head Coach for the Austin Ice Bats in the Central Hockey League. Again after one season Greg switched coaching positions this time to return to his Alma matter, as the Head Coach for the University of Lethbridge Pronghorn Hockey Team where he has been coaching since 2005.
